Varen Technologies is looking for Sr. Sytem Adminstrator/Helpdesk Specialist in support of our prime contract which provides a variety of services to include back end web application development, COTS implementation, custom software support, basic server support and coding changes and enhancements to existing systems. This will be done within a full life cycle environment.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to

The Sr. System Administrator/Helpdesk Specialist shall:

Provides support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems.

Manages IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.

Provides support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.

Provides Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems

Provides support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers

Provides support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process.

Configures and manages UNIX and Windows operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoots, maintains integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.

Provides support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems.

Manages the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems.

Provide assistance to users in accessing and using IT systems.

Optimizes system operations and resource utilization, and performs system capacity analysis and planning.

Able to Read (reading comprehension especially of technical manuals/documents)

Communication skills:

Able (and will) listen with ability to interpret /Able to walk customer through problem-solving processes

Able to converse technical subjects related to system administration tasks and help tanslate vendors observed/perceived issues via phone and provide feedback at a level that vendor can correct issue and access website

Able to resolve basic Government contract drafts and interpret this knowledge to customers

Professional Attitude maintained in discussions and queries from  client and customers (vendors)

Experienced in Technical Writing (drafts IAW Writing Style Guide and Preferred Usage for DoD Issuances, 08/23/2017)

Capable and desirous to learn

Organize Tasks:


Track and interlace conduct of tasks (generate accounts, track invoices, renew accounts, retrieve data files, etc.)

Sr. System Administration/HelpDesk skills for Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux

PKI Certificate installation and maintenance hands-on familiarity to support asymmetric equipment.

Help Desk experience (or exhibited willingness to acquire Help Desk skills)

Work schedule flexible


Able to draft and execute UNIX/Linux scripts

Software Test experience:

Translate system software performance requirements into test plan
Conduct testing and provide evaluation

Hardware Test experience:

Translate system hardware performance requirements into test plan
Conduct testing and provide evaluation

Atlassian package of Team Collaborative tools (Confluence, Jira, etc.)

SharePoint User (SharePoint Server 2016 knowledge and use a significant benefit)

Instructor knowledge:


Demonstration of Help Desk use of system to client DTAG experience (if experienced candidate will know what a DTAG is)
Virtual Private Network setup and use

Draft Help Desk Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)



Bachelor of Science (BS) from an accredited college or university in a technical degree field is required.


Five (5) years’ experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity within the Federal Government is required.

No Degree?  No worries - Five (5) years of additional system administration experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.

DoD 8570 certification - Security+ CE, (REQUIRED)





Must Possess an Active TS/SCI/Poly for immediate consideration
